Uninstall the Card Printer Driver
Use one of the following methods to remove the Card Printer Driver from your system.
- Use the Driver Installation CD or Downloaded File
- Use the Start Menu Uninstall Program
Note: You can uninstall the Card Printer Driver using either the Driver Installation CD or downloaded file, or by using the uninstall utility from the Windows Start menu.
- If you have multiple user accounts configured on a shared printer client, only one account should be logged on when removing the driver. The Card Printer Driver uninstall process removes the printer from all configured accounts on the PC.
- You must restart your computer after uninstalling the Card Printer Driver.
Resolve the Error
You must remove the XPS Card Printer Driver printers using the Windows Devices and Printers window before starting the uninstall process.
If you start the uninstall program before removing the devices, the following message displays:
- Click OK to close the message.
- The following message displays. Click OK again and remove the devices before proceeding with the uninstall.
- If you are using the Driver Installation CD, the following screen displays. Continue with the uninstall process.
Remove the Devices
- Log on to the PC as a user with administrator access.

Remove the devices.
- Right-click the printer icon and select See what’s printing to make sure that there are no documents waiting to print.
- From the Windows Devices and Printers window , right-click the icon for the XPS Card Printer and select Remove device from the menu.
- Click Yes when the Remove Device message displays. This removes the XPS Card Printer icon from the list of printers.
- Repeat this step for each XPS Card Printer installed on the computer.
3. Use one of the following methods to remove the Card Printer Driver from your system.
- Use the Driver Installation CD or Downloaded File
- Use the Start Menu Uninstall Program
Use the Driver Installation CD or Downloaded File
- Make sure that all devices have been removed from the Devices and Printers window. Refer to “Remove Devices” above.
- Do one of the following:
- Insert the Driver Installation CD in the PC’s drive.
OR
- Double-click the XPSCardPrinter_x.x.x.exe downloaded file.
The Card Printer Driver install Welcome page displays. (If the AutoPlay window displays, click Run autorun.exe .)
- Click the wastebasket icon to start the uninstall process.
- The Remove the Printer Driver from the PC window displays. Click Remove the Driver .
- The XPS Card Printer Uninstall dialog box displays. If the printer is connected via a USB cable, make sure that the cable is connected to the PC. If the printer connects to a network via Ethernet, you can continue with the uninstall. Click OK to continue.
An activity indicator displays as the Card Printer Driver is being removed.
The Driver removed screen displays.
- Click Restart Now.
If the printer was connected via USB, a message displays reminding you to unplug the USB cable.
- Click OK after you disconnect the USB cable.
- Click Restart Now again to complete the driver removal.
Use the Start Menu Uninstall Program
Use the following procedure to remove the Card Printer Driver if you do not have access to, or cannot use, the Driver Installation CD.
- Make sure that all devices have been removed from the Devices and Printers window. Refer to “Remove Devices” on page 58.
- Remove the driver from your system. From the Windows Start menu, select All Programs > Datacard Printers and click XPS Card Printer Uninstall .
Note: Windows 8.1 users: Display the Apps screen and click XPS Card Printer Uninstall .
Click Yes when prompted to allow the program to make changes to your computer.
- The XPS Card Printer Uninstall dialog box displays. If the printer is connected through USB, make sure that the cable is connected to the PC. If the printer connects to a network via Ethernet, you can continue with the uninstall. Click OK to continue.
- The XPS Card Printer Uninstall dialog box displays a warning that no printer activity occurs while the driver files are removed. Click OK to continue.
- The XPS Card Printer Uninstall dialog box displays a message that the Card Printer Driver is uninstalled. Unplug the USB cable, if connected. Click OK.
- Restart your PC following the uninstall. Click Yes to restart. Click No to restart the PC at a later time.
The Card Printer Driver requires a USB printer to be plugged in before starting the driver uninstall process. The printer then must be unplugged at the end of the uninstall. The Card Printer Driver uninstall program also requires the PC to be restarted after the uninstall completes.
If the USB printer is unplugged or not in the Ready state prior to running the uninstall, the USB driver may not install the next time you attempt to install the same printer to the PC. Refer to “Reinstall the XPS USB Card Printer Driver” on page 131 for information about how to remove any driver files that were not removed during the uninstall process.
