Problem:

In openssl w hen you run a command with the server SSL certificate and you get the response “unable to load certificate”.  For example:

Or in Apache webserver when you attempt to start your server after installing the new server certificate, apache webserver will not start and the error code is “AH00016”

Cause:
In rare cases, the formatting of the PEM server certificate contains an extra newline when the last line of the PEM contents ends exactly at the line cutoff.

Solution:

Open PEM format certificate in Notepad and remove the extra newline and that will resolve the error.
