What is the Entrust Remote Signing Service?
The Entrust Remote Signing Service is a cloud-hosted version of Entrust document signing certificates for employees, with an option to use eIDAS qualified certificates for employees to generate eIDAS qualified signatures. The service helps to keep remote businesses moving safely by integrating high-assurance, verifiable employee signatures into compatible document applications and workflows such as Adobe Acrobat Sign or Sysmosoft Let’s Sign.
What type of certificates does Entrust issue for the Remote Signing Service?
Each Remote Signing Service user (employee) can have one digital certificate. The certificate can be one of the following types:
- Standard remote signing certificates for employees of an organization. These certificates are trusted by Adobe (AATL) and by Microsoft and can be used to create digital signatures.
- eIDAS Qualified Signature Certificates for employees of an organization. This certificate is used to create Qualified Electronic Signatures (QES) under the EU eIDAS Regulation.
Which countries can Entrust issue standard remote signing certificates for, and how is the identity validated?
Standard remote signing certificates can be issued to natural persons with a valid passport or a supported government-issued ID card (for example, a national ID or driver's license).
Entrust will verify the user’s identity using one of the following procedures:
- Automated video identification, where the user's identity is verified online without a live agent.
- Video identification with a live agent in case the automated video identification is unavailable or cannot be completed.
The service is supported by most countries. Please talk to your sales representative or contact us if you would like to receive more details.
Which countries can Entrust issue eIDAS Qualified Signature Certificates for and how is the identity validated?
eIDAS Qualified Signature Certificates can be issued to EU citizens with a valid Passport or National ID issued by most European countries.
Entrust will verify the user’s identity using one of the following procedures:
- Automated video identification with post-approval (an Entrust verification specialist will review the identification process before the issuance of the qualified certificate). This is the default authentication mechanism used by Entrust.
- Face-to-face notarized identification (the signature on the request for the issuance of a qualified certificate is authenticated in the presence of a notary). Please note that Entrust can help you to find a suitable notary, Entrust will not cover the costs associated with the notarization process.
The automated video identification may fail in some circumstances (for example: if the camera resolution or light conditions are not good enough). If this happens, you will be able to retry the process and our verification team will assist you.
Notarized identification will have to be used when the user's identity cannot be verified using automated video identification after repeated retries.
