Challenge

Since Indonesia issued Presidential Regulation Number 82 of 2023, or the Acceleration of Digital Transformation and Integration of National Digital Services, the Indonesian government has been looking to fast-track and elevate its digital government strategy.

This includes offering national digital services via an electronic-based government system (SPBE). Nine priority services covering population administration, education, health, police services, social assistance, and immigration services will be integrated into a national digital platform called INA Digital. This service will streamline access to 27,000 public service applications that overlap with one another.

Technical Challenge

As a result of the drive toward national digital services, Indonesia’s need for Zero Trust solutions – including identity-centric security, secure connections, and secure data – is expected to surge. To meet this demand and realize Indonesia’s national digital services ambition, the government could consider augmenting its systems with critical Zero Trust solutions, such as authenticating digital identities of its citizens nationwide (over 275M) and protecting data at rest, in transit, and in use.

AUTENTIKA – which has already been involved in several digitalization projects for the Indonesian government - wanted to get ready to provide top-tier, innovative Zero Trust solutions that the Indonesian government and other clients need.

Lösung

AUTENTIKA turned to Entrust to boost its in-house authentication and authorization solutions to contribute to the Indonesian government’s increasing data security needs. As such, the organization opted to deploy the Entrust nShield® hardware security modules (HSMs), nShield Web Services Option Pack (WSOP), and the Entrust Tokenization Solution, which perfectly aligned with AUTENTIKA’s requirements and allowed the company to achieve its objectives.

On top of this, the company developed a comprehensive software framework after deploying the nShield WSOP and Entrust Tokenization Solution. This gives AUTENTIKA the ability to offer lower-cost subscriptions to organizations, either for one or both services, via a multi-tenant setup – thereby enhancing its competitive edge and boosting its revenue opportunities.

Results

With the deployment of Entrust’s nShield HSMs, AUTENTIKA can now confidently provide a hardened, tamper-resistant environment – the foundation of trust – for its data security solutions in Indonesia.

Additionally, the robust redundancy features of nShield HSMs mean that AUTENTIKA can expect high availability and resilience in its operations. nShield HSMs are not dependent on internal memory, making them easily scalable to meet AUTENTIKA’s growing needs.

AUTENTIKA can also leverage secure APIs integrated into an API HUB for the other services it develops, such as facial recognition, document recognition, and digital signatures.

Looking ahead, AUTENTIKA wants to leverage Entrust’s capabilities to continue delivering comprehensive solutions to its clients. To achieve this, AUTENTIKA aims to:

  • Further integrate Entrust’s offerings with its existing framework while remaining flexible to incorporate other specific components as needed
  • Align with CISA’s Zero Trust frameworks to reflect its commitment to robust security practices
  • Explore quantum-ready technologies to stay future-proof
