Seamless travel begins with digital trust

According to the World Economic Forum, the average weekly seat capacity on commercial passenger airlines reached 90.7 million by December 2022. But with increased air travel comes longer wait times at airports, delayed flights, and increased security risks.

Ensure traveler identity assurance and data quality

In today’s digital era, passengers expect to travel at the click of a few buttons, skipping wait times and reducing touchpoints. Thanks to game-changing enhancements in identity technology, we can provide these features to travelers and travel service providers, creating a seamless journey. Research published by IATA found that 75% of passengers are in favor of using biometric data instead of passports and boarding passes, and over a third have already experienced using biometric identification in their travels – with an 88% satisfaction rate.

Entrust’s identity verification solution provides enhanced passenger engagement, a high level of assurance, and digital identity verification. Identity Verification as a Service (IDVaaS) is use-case driven with the choice of best-of-breed service components (e.g., liveness, facial matching, document chip validation) to create a seamless experience for travelers.

Use identity verification to transform the passenger journey

IDVaaS provides increased operational efficiency, security, passenger satisfaction, and secure transactions by delivering a trusted digital identification ecosystem. Initiatives such as IATA’s One ID and WTTC’s Safe & Seamless Traveller Journey have encouraged industries to recognize the importance of digital identity and its many benefits in the passenger journey.

Today’s identity technology enables travelers to register their biometric and passport information remotely, before leaving home, at a level of security that meets the requirements of travel providers, ports, and border authorities.

Entrust’s IDVaaS solution allows travelers to use their smartphone to scan their passports and validate their identity.

This validated information can then be used to derive a Digital Travel Credential (DTC) and store it securely on a smartphone.

The DTC can be submitted to the carrier and border authorities so the traveler can walk seamlessly through the most touchpoints in their journey. Your face becomes your ticket.

Build a Secure, Seamless Citizen Experience

The latest digital identity research from Juniper shows that the number of digital identity apps in use will exceed 4.1 billion globally by 2027, rising from 2.3 billion in 2023. This represents a growth of 82% over the next four years. This increase will be driven by the use of government-backed digital identities to replace physical identity documents as a source of verification for third-party apps, such as banking and financial services.

The benefits of adopting digital identity verification

In today’s digital era, citizens still need to go in-person to embassies or consulates for visas, renewals, and biometrics. Adopting digital identity verification can be beneficial to governments and citizens. For example:

  • A digital visa process also has the potential to streamline the application process by automating many of the steps involved. An applicant's passport information and biometric data can be collected electronically, eliminating the need for manual entry. This can reduce the likelihood of errors and speed up the processing time.

  • A digital visa process can help reduce the risk of fraud by using biometric data to verify an applicant's identity. This can help maintain the integrity of the visa process and ensure that visas are only issued to those who are eligible.

Identity verification enhances the citizen and non-citizen journey

Entrust’s identity verification solution provides enhanced citizen engagement, a high level of assurance, and digital identity verification. Identity Verification as a Service (IDVaaS) is use-case driven with the choice of best-of-breed service components (e.g. liveness, facial matching, document chip validation) to create a seamless experience for citizens and non-citizens.

Our technology acts as the “front door” to digital immigration applications and border declarations. The technology ensures personal and unique biometric data is processed securely and efficiently, helping to digitize and streamline border control systems. and speeding up identity and border checks.

Streamline citizen experiences

One of the largest examples of our identity verification technology streamlining citizen experience is our recent UK Home Office: Generic Identity Verification (GIDV) contract. It’s one of the largest government IDV references anywhere for an immigration use case. Initially deployed to support the EU Settlement Scheme, GIDV was subsequently expanded to include some student and work permit applicants, British national (overseas) passport holders in Hong Kong, and Ukraine Family Scheme visa applications.

More than 7.5 million identities have been verified remotely across more than 3,500 different makes and models of smartphone. The Entrust GIDV platform will also be used for the UK’s first Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) program, expected to grow to 30 million transactions annually by the end of 2024.
