nShield hardware security modules certified for use with Brazil’s national public key infrastructure, government and enterprise applications

nCipher Security, an Entrust Datacard company, and a world leader in hardware security modules (HSMs), announces that its nShield® HSMs have received ICP-Brazil certification at the highest security level MCT7 NSC3. With this certification, nCipher is well-positioned to meet the demands for high-performance, high-assurance security that come from digital government projects, Certificate Authorities (CAs), Industry 4.0, healthcare and finance applications in Brazil.

Issued by the Instituto Nacional de Metrologia, Qualidade e Tecnologia (INMETRO), ICP-Brasil certification confirms that nShield XC HSMs meet the security requirements for cryptographic modules to be used in the Brazilian public key infrastructure.

Data compliance regulations such as Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD) have put data protection and encryption at the forefront of customers’ security strategies, especially within the financial services and telecom industries, government, and with organizations pursuing a cloud-first strategy. Effective encryption strategies require strong key generation and management and the best practice is to store those keys in an HSM. The recently announced launch of PIX, the Brazilian Central Bank’s national instant payment system, will also drive demand for HSMs as a root of trust for the payment security infrastructure.

“nCipher has long championed best practices and industry standards. Receiving ICP-Brasil certification demonstrates our commitment not only to achieving the highest security standards and compliance requirements, but also to the Brazilian market,” says André Machado, Senior Channel Manager LATAM, nCipher Security. “Our customers can rest assured that nCipher technology brings the highest levels of trust, integrity and control to their business-critical applications, certified by internationally recognized standards bodies, including the Brazilian authorities. Organizations in Brazil now have an additional HSM option for their important security projects and we look forward to building on our commitment to both our existing customers and to new opportunities in Brazil.”

Organizations around the globe depend on nCipher’s nShield family of hardware security modules (HSMs) to protect against threats to their sensitive data, network communications and enterprise infrastructure. This same proven technology also underpins the security of emerging technologies such as cloud, the internet of things (IoT), blockchain and digital payments as well as helping meet compliance mandates. In addition to ICP-Brasil, nShield HSMs are certified to FIPS 140-2 Level 3 and Common Criteria EAL4+.

nShield HSMs integrate with a growing ecosystem of more than 100 security solution providers, including Broadcom, CyberArk, Entrust Datacard, F5, HashiCorp, IBM, Microsoft, Micro Focus and Palo Alto Networks, to offer fully integrated and field-proven solutions that deliver enhanced security to end customers by hardening these technologies with certified, hardware-based cryptography.

nShield HSMs and nShield as a Service are among the highest-performing, most secure and easy-to-integrate HSM solutions available, facilitating regulatory compliance and delivering the highest levels of data and application security for enterprise, financial and government organizations. The unique Security World key management architecture provides strong, granular controls over the access and usage of key policies.
