SCHUFA Secures Its Online Services with Strong Authentication From Entrust
More than 1 Million SCHUFA Customers Use Entrust Grid Cards
DALLAS, Nov. 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Since 2005, the customer portal of SCHUFA is protected from unauthorized access by multifactor authentication. Now the number of registered users has exceeded one million accounts. SCHUFA and their customers rely on the proven Entrust IdentityGuard authentication platform and Entrust’s patented grid cards.
“SCHUFA has always placed major focus on the protection of their customers’ online identities,” says Manuel Dietz, head of product development non-corporate clients. “We chose the Entrust platform and user-friendly grid cards because we needed a reliable authentication solution that the customers are going to accept. And more than a million registered users show that our decision was right on track.”
Entrust IdentityGuard provides users with a grid-based encryption table the size of a credit card. Printed on the card is a coordinate system of letters and numbers, which are designed individually for each account holder. At the login process, the security server provides two coordinates. The customer responds with the code in the appropriate field located on their unique grid card. This system is flexible and very easy to use.
“SCHUFA has paid attention on the balance between costs, usability and acceptance,” says Entrust President and CEO Bill Conner. “Regarding these points, as well as the scalability of our product, our solution is a step ahead.”
Entrust IdentityGuard is a versatile and integrated security platform, and currently the market leader in terms of quantity of supported authentication types. Entrust IdentityGuard provides a number of mobile identification solutions, such as soft tokens, smartcards or USB devices, but also provides systems that use a second channel of information, including one-time passcodes by voice, SMS or e-mail.
In addition, printed and electronic grid cards are used, as well as hardware tokens and digital certificates. This makes customized strong authentication approaches possible, which take account of individual threats, user needs and the level of data confidentiality required.
