MINNETONKA, Minn.—(Nov. 12, 2014)—The protection of an organization’s assets starts with a secure, trusted identity, yet today’s organization is tasked with provisioning multiple identities with a variety of incompatible solutions. To simplify this process, Entrust Datacard announces a new component of Entrust® IdentityGuard Cloud Services that consolidates the issuance and management of multipurpose smartcards, USB tokens and mobile smart credentials — all from the cloud.

“Security, privacy and protection of sensitive information cannot be maintained if organizations still rely on legacy authenticators or, worse yet, usernames and passwords,” said David Wagner, president of Entrust. “By leveraging the cloud, organizations not only bolster security, but truly open the door for end-to-end management of digital identities for mobile devices, cloud applications, internal services and more.”

The new solution enables organizations to produce and manage a single unified identity credential for each person associated with an enterprise, government agency or citizen population — all delivered as a service. The cloud-based management console is leveraged to enroll identities, activate credentials via over-the-air enrollment, and handle day-to-day management. Onsite printing and encoding of credentials is tightly integrated with the cloud credential management system.

Issue a Trusted Mobile Identity

Unique to the market, Entrust IdentityGuard Cloud Services also seamlessly integrates with the Entrust IdentityGuard Mobile Smart Credential, which transforms a mobile device into a multipurpose digital identity for secure physical, logical and cloud access.

“We’re looking beyond just plastic card form-factors,” said Wagner. “The service gives organizations the choice to use either smartcards or USB tokens, or even leverage employee-owned and corporate-issued mobile devices to serve as convenient, cost-effective mobile smart credentials.”

Leveraging near-field communication (NFC) and Bluetooth communication standards, Mobile Smart Credentials are embedded digital certificates on smartphones to create trusted identity credentials for stronger, more convenient enterprise authentication, digital-signing and encryption.

Consolidate Security Controls

Security-conscious organizations are seeking proven methods of marrying legacy and contemporary physical access control technologies with logical access systems. The Entrust cloud-based solution integrates with existing physical and logical access controls, elevates the security posture of all environment types and provides a future-proof strong identity credential for the organization.

The cloud-based credentialing service facilitates mobility, interoperability and security of end-user access by employing one credential for building, computer and cloud access, and a wide range of useful applications (e.g., secure email, document-signing and photo identification). The service includes all necessary components, including identity-vetting, data capture, personalization, printing, issuance and revocation.

Built to Government Standards

Entrust Datacard provides secure, trusted identities that empower and secure U.S. government agencies and their employees. As part of the Non-Federal Identity Shared Service Provider (NFI-SSP) public key infrastructure (PKI) program, the U.S. government requires the use of smartcards with digital certificates issued by an approved certification authority (CA) that’s cross-certified with the U.S. Federal Bridge CA (FBCA).

To help organizations comply with HSPD-12, FIPS 140 and 201 requirements for interoperability, the Entrust Non-Federal Identity Shared Service Provider PKI (Federal Bridge CA) & Smart Credential solution helps government agencies issue and distribute identity credentials to third-party contractors for authenticated access to sensitive information, applications and databases.

The Flagship Authentication Platform

Entrust IdentityGuard continues to lead the industry as one of the most robust software authentication platforms, delivering an unmatched breadth of capabilities and flexibility to meet the most demanding security environments.

The solution enables organizations to layer security — according to access requirements or the risk of a given transaction — across diverse users and applications. The Entrust diverse set of authentication capabilities include smartcards and USB tokens, soft tokens, grid cards and eGrids, IP-geolocation, questions and answers, mobile smart credentials, out-of-band one-time passcode (delivered via voice, SMS or email), out-of-band transaction verification and a range of one-time-passcode tokens.
