MINNETONKA, Minn.—(Aug. 04, 2014)—Datacard Group today announced that it has been positioned by ABI Research as one of the top leaders in their 2014 competitive assessment for Government and Healthcare ID: Smart Card and Legacy Credentials.

This vendor matrix represents ABI Research’s ranking of the leading smart card and legacy credential vendors active within the government, healthcare and citizen ID ecosystem.  The vendors were assessed on implementation and innovation – including global reach, breadth of services offered, multi-application capabilities and support of market convergence, level of security, e-government services, among others.

According to the assessment, Phil Sealy, research analyst at ABI Research stated that “an important aspect of this competitive assessment was evaluating each vendor’s multi-application, convergence and digitized authentication solutions. Governments are increasingly looking towards the leveraging of credentials already in circulation to enable secure online authentication capabilities for citizen access to various services.”

Datacard Group was ranked as a leader due to the high assessment rating it received for its extensive distribution channels and global reach, its market share of e-government ID implementations around the world, and continued commitment to offer innovative technologies to the government sector.  To-date, Datacard Group is implemented in 18 of the 20 largest e-government programs and has over 400 government projects around the world.  Additionally, roughly 165,000 passports, 10 million credentials, and 5 million smart cards are issued daily using the company’s solutions.

Also strengthening Datacard Group’s assessment was the recent acquisition of Entrust, a company that provides authentication software platforms.  The combined portfolio of Entrust and Datacard Group solutions range from citizen enrollment and ID document issuance to technologies for authentication, renewal and revocation of physical and digital credentials.

“This ABI Research competitive assessment further validates Datacard Group’s strong worldwide market share and continued commitment to innovation in the government industry,” said Russell St. John, senior vice president of global marketing for Datacard Group. “And, there is no slowing down for us.  We are continuing to see very strong growth opportunities in this market as government agencies want to establish strong lines of defense against both physical and logical security threats, and ensure their citizens securely and efficiently cross borders or access e-gov services through web portals or mobile devices. Our solutions help them achieve this.”
