
Certificate Signing Request (CSR) Help
For Mac OS X 10.7 server and up
Complete the following steps to create your CSR.
1. Open the Server App.
In the Finder window, under Favorites, click Applications and then double-click Server.
2. Select This Mac - YourServerName and then Continue.
3. Enter your Administrator Name and Administrator Password and then click Allow
4. In the left-hand column, under Server select Certificates.
5. Select the + button and then Get a Trusted Certificate...
6. The page below will appear. Select Next.
7. Enter the information requested.
Refer to the table below for more information.
Host Name: | Enter the name to be used to access the certificate. This name is usually the fully qualified domain name (FQDN). For example, www.example.com or example.com |
Contact Email Address: | Enter the email address associated to the certificate and at which you may be contacted. |
Company or Organization: | Enter the legally registered name of your organization. |
Department: | Enter your department name. If you do not have one, note this field is mandatory, so you may provide something general such as "IT". |
Town or City: | Enter the city where your organization is located. Note that this information is verified, so you want all address information to be accurate. |
State or Province: | Enter the state or province where your organization or company is located. Note that this information is verified, so you want all address information to be accurate. |
Country: | In the drop-down list, select the country where your organization or company is located. Note that this information is verified, so you want all address information to be accurate. |
8. To generate the CSR, select Next.
9. Save the CSR by clicking the Save button. Make sure to take note of the file name and location.
10. When you have saved the CSR, select Finish. Mac OS X server will show a certificate with a Pending Expiration Date.
You may use the contents of the CSR (open the file with a Text Editor) you have generated to request an SSL/TLS certificate.
