In what format is the S/MIME certificate issued?
Entrust S/MIME certificates are issued in PFX format. When you download your S/MIME certificate you will be asked to complete a certificate pickup wizard that will import the certificate as a .p12 file as shown below:
Yes, Entrust certificates are compatible with users that have S/MIME certificates from other Trusted CAs.
Does Entrust Certificates work with mobile devices such as Apple iOS, Android, Windows Mobile or BlackBerry?
It is not the certificate that is compatible with the mobile device but it is the mobile device that supports S/MIME, Entrust follows the standard for S/MIME based off of RFC 5751 (
https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5751
)
Apple iOS and BlackBerry support S/MIME and have native support within their OS. Other mobile devices may require Software Updates or Third-Party software to support S/MIME.

You will need to use a software based email client such as Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird or Apple Mail to be able send encrypted emails using an S/MIME certificate:
What Software Supports Entrust S/MIME certificates?
As stated previously, S/MIME functionality is dependent on the email client being software-based. Thus, at the moment there is limited support for S/MIME certificates in certain circumstances such as Android devices (Gmail or Outlook).
