For Windows Server 2016
Requirements:
Windows Server 2016 Operating System
DNS service installed and setup correctly
Here is the process:
1. Login to your Windows Server as administrator.
2. Launch PowerShell window by clicking on Windows Icon > Windows PowerShell .
3. Type the following command to get the full listing of your existing zone record:
Get-DnsServerResourceRecord -zonename your_zone_name
NOTE: In this example, the zone name is entrustcertlab.com
4. To add a new CAA record you need to use an UNKNOWN record type. This is because Microsoft Windows does not provide a specific field to add this particular record.
Note: For more information about the introduction of the UNKNOWN record type to support RFC 3597 from Microsoft Windows 2016 Server, go here:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/networking/dns/what-s-new-in-dns-server
To add this, please follow the instruction for PowerShell, using the command below:
Add-DnsServerResourceRecord -name your_own_name -RecordData 00056973737565656E74727573742E6E6574 -Type 257 -ZoneName your_zone_name
-name |
Your own designated record name. Example:
entrustcertlab.com
|
-RecordData |
For Entrust:
For D-Trust: 000569737375656474727573742E6465 NOTE: The above value are designated hexadecimal code for Entrust and D-Trust. Make sure you don’t mistype or left out any character or number. |
-Type |
257
|
-ZoneName |
Your DNS zone name.
Example:
entrustcertlab.com
|
Note: Entrust Legacy Zone File (RFC 3597 syntax)
example.com. IN TYPE257 \# 18 00056973737565656E74727573742E6E6574
or
example.com. IN TYPE257 \# 000569737375656474727573742E6465
5. At this point, the CAA Record has been added.
NOTE:
If your organization currently uses entrust for your CAA record, we recommend adding a separate CAA record for D-Trust.
You can run a command to review your zone records by typing the same command from step 3. You will see that the UNKNOWN record is now showing along with other previously existing records:
Get-DnsServerResourceRecord -zonename your_zone_name
