What is LTV?
LTV (Long Term Validation) provides a record of what state the Certificate was at the time of signing. In order to validate a certificate, the time and date when the PDF document was signed needs to be known. For this to be undisputable, the signature has to be digitally timestamped. Verifying a certificate requires the OCSP or CRL responder for its Certificates to be online. But how would you know if it was trustworthy 25 years ago? These considerations have led to the concept of “LTV”.
How to check if my document is LTV enabled?
- Open Adobe Acrobat Reader DC
- Click on"Signature Panel"
- Expand the signature panel
Adding LTV information to an existing signature.
If you have a document that is signed but missing the required LTV information, you can simply add the missing record as follows:
- Right-click in the blue area and select “Add Verification Information”
- If successful, the following message will appear.
