  1. What is Entrust Authority™ Roaming Server? (top)

The Roaming Server allows users to log in and gain secure access to information from any location without having to carry their digital IDs — providing trusted users access to information anytime. It also provides flexibility to tailor security roles to match the needs of corporations and end users.

  2. Does the Roaming Server encrypt for multiple Roaming Servers? (top)

The Roaming Server can encrypt a user’s profile for itself as well as for any other Roaming Servers in a multiple Roaming Server environment. This will allow a wider distribution of roaming users and greater scalability for the roaming solution in addition to support for the implementation of Roaming Server load-balancing clusters.

  3. Will I be able to use a two-tiered directory structure for the Roaming Server? (top)

Yes. The Roaming Server can be configured as a proxy to the directory where the user’s roaming credentials are securely stored. By configuring the Roaming Server to act as a proxy, the customer can implement a two-tiered directory structure where a private directory contains the roaming profiles and a publicly accessible directory contains all other user information.

  4. Will my organization be able to use the Roaming capabilities globally? (top)

Yes. The Roaming Server, working in conjunction with the Security Manager, supports multi-byte characters in user names. This gives greater flexibility to roaming users worldwide. Now they can choose the user names they want without language constraints. With this support of multi-byte characters, roaming users can select user names that contain foreign language and accented characters.

  5. Does the Roaming Server allow for offline roaming? (top)

The Roaming Server allows selected roaming users to work in an offline mode where there is no connection to the network, the directory, or the Roaming Server. This is optional functionality available with Entrust Authority Roaming Server that only requires special configuration of the master, certification specification file and careful management of the client desktop environment.

  6. Will I be able to use a multiple directory structure? (top)

With the latest release of Entrust Authority Roaming Server, the number of active directory connections possible has been increased to between 2 and 20. This improves the scalability and performance of Entrust products that support multiple operations of roaming where required directory access can occur simultaneously.

  7. Does the Roaming Server transparently update the keys with no impact to the roaming users accessing the server? (top)

Yes, the Roaming Server automatically checks every 24 hours whether key updates are necessary and if so, transparently updates the keys within digital IDs with no impact to the roaming users accessing the server. Checking every 24 hours for key updates means that there is virtually no chance that the Roaming Server keys will expire before its new keys have been generated.

  8. Does the Roaming Server allow for disabling Login Lockout? (top)

Denial-of-service attacks can cause servers to shutdown whenever login lockouts are enabled for servers. With the Roaming Server, customers have the option of disabling the login lockout feature thereby defeating the threat of a denial-of-service attack. Multiple login attempts will continue to be logged so server administrators can detect any attacks in progress.
