EAC delivers stronger PKI solutions for passport control

EAC is a second-generation framework that enables biometric data, such as an iris scan or fingerprint, to be stored on a travel document in such a way that only authorized entities are able to access it.

EAC produces ISO 7816 Card Verifiable certificates instead of x509 PKI certificates. All CVs possess short validity periods and have no revocation scheme, requiring the components in the certificate infrastructure to be coordinated for efficient management of receipt and processing of certificate requests.

EAC passports rely on higher PKI requirements because of the requirement for the chip to authenticate the reader, as well as require solutions that are highly scalable, reliable and offer unprecedented performance.
