DALLAS, /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- For extended validation (EV) SSL, the SSL certificates that turn the URL address bar green, there has been a debate about price versus quality of the vendor providing the certificate. With Entrust, Inc. (NASDAQ: ENTU), customers enjoy a competitively priced EV SSL certificate but from a company that specializes in security.
"The important thing is to choose an SSL vendor with security in their DNA," said Entrust Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Bill Conner. "Security is all we do, and with cybercriminals committed to escalating their craft, someone has to take security on as a full time job. The key is to find an SSL provider that is a security expert but not be forced to pay a premium."
A recent study conducted by an SSL certification authority, also illustrated the high return on investment (ROI) for customers who upgraded to extended validation (EV) SSL certificates. Because of the more obvious trust indicators for EV SSL, their research found that deploying these certificates resulted in an 87 percent increase in registration rates, a 30 percent climb in sales conversions and substantial growth in the overall ROI. Entrust customers also have obtained impressive results by deploying EV SSL certificates, yet they pay about half the price of the other vendor for the same quality, standards-based technology.
"One of the reasons behind the development of the EV SSL standard was to raise the bar for security across the board and boost customer confidence in the online channel," said Dr. Tim Moses, director of advanced security for Entrust and the chairman of the CA/Browser Forum that developed the EV SSL standard. "Developing this rigorous standard allowed us to offer the same quality SSL certificate for a more affordable price."
SSL certificates represent the first line of defense protecting customers in an online environment, which is why more and more organizations rely on Entrust, a trusted security leader, for their SSL needs. An SSL partner that is easy to do business with, Entrust has best in class technical support and takes enterprise-grade security seriously. Once the first line of defense is addressed, organizations need a security partner that can help ensure security of the rest of the transaction with additional layers of encryption and authentication. SSL is just the first step to securing an online consumer environment.
"Doing business with consumers online is all about trust," adds Conner. "Any additional layer of security consumers can sense will provide greater confidence in the organization, as well as create greater loyalty with customers that can be lost easily with a few mouse clicks."
Entrust offers a managed service to help customers manage multiple SSL certificates, and Entrust has secured more than 1,000 customers with its Certificate Management Service and also is experiencing strong growth for EV SSL and Unified Communications (UC) certificate offerings. In addition to the growing customer base, Entrust customers renew at a rate of 98 percent. This high rate is a testament to the superior service, competitive pricing and overall ease of use of SSL products and services from a trusted security expert.
One of Entrust's experts chaired the CA/Browser Forum that developed the rigorous validation process to issue EV SSL certificates and also was the first certification authority (CA) to "turn the bar green" for Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 users in 2007. Entrust also worked closely with Microsoft to develop UC certificates and was the first CA to issue these specialized certificates to help secure Microsoft Exchange Server 2007.
The Entrust Certificate Management Service features a self-service tool that helps streamline the procurement and administration of SSL certificates. Acting as a centrally managed, self-service system, the Certificate Management Service reduces administrative hassles and helps to reduce the risk of inadvertent certificate expiration by allowing customers to synchronize and control the timing of Entrust SSL certificate expiration. The Certificate Management Service also enables administrators to "re-use" or "recycle" their Entrust SSL certificates to maximize usage and minimize costs.
