Security Hardware Tokens Replaced with Entrust Security Software to Achieve Strong Authentication and HIPAA Compliance for IDX Systems Corporation

Entrust TruePass? software for Web-based strong authentication provides a greater return on investment over security hardware tokens

20 Nov 2002

DALLAS - Entrust, Inc. [Nasdaq: ENTU], a leading global provider of enhanced Internet security solutions and services, today announced that IDX Systems Corporation [Nasdaq: IDXC] has selected to use Entrust software throughout its enterprise. The Entrust solution supports IDX's communications under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) while bringing electronic efficiencies to business processes for internal employees and external business partners.

IDX selected Entrust TruePass software as a replacement for its existing hardware tokens for strong authentication. The Entrust solution also enables digital signatures on electronic transactions, in addition to privacy and verification of participants in a business communication or transaction in a cost-effective manner.  This added security to Internet communications protects sensitive information from unauthorized access and misuse.

"We are focused on maintaining and implementing the highest quality security and privacy practices," said Tim Cornish, Manager of Information Services, IDX.  "We believe Entrust TruePass offers IDX users a flexible, easy-to-use alternative to hardware tokens that will drive a greater return on investment.  As a result, Entrust TruePass will become the Web-based method by which we authenticate end users and eventually provide digital signatures to electronic documents."

"We are pleased to have been selected by IDX and look forward to a strong future relationship," said Bill Conner, president, chief executive officer and chairman, Entrust, Inc.  "Entrust continues to expand its customer base in the health care market. While the primary purpose for most institutions is to achieve HIPAA compliance, we have found that achieving a greater return on investment through a flexible solution is equally important to leading companies like IDX."

The IDX selection of Entrust TruePass software to replace its hardware tokens is supported by a recent independent industry analyst group study. The report revealed that Entrust TruePassTM software is a robust security alternative to hardware tokens. More importantly, in the current economic environment, this solution also provides a higher return on investment in the scenarios studied, offering a more cost-effective method of protecting Web-based access to critical data.
