Commonwealth of Kentucky Deploys Entrust IT Security Solutions for Field Operations

Kentucky Revenue Cabinet Utilizing Entrust Software to Develop a Solution to Secure its Financial Data and Information Systems

DALLAS - Entrust, Inc. [NASDAQ: ENTU], a global leader in securing digital identities and information, announced today that the Kentucky Revenue Cabinet has commenced a proof of concept project using Entrust software to extend security requirements to its field staff and remote user's laptops.  The Revenue Cabinet has more than 200 employees that deal with sensitive taxpayer information and utilize laptops while traveling as Auditors and Field Representatives.  The Kentucky Revenue Cabinet recognizes that appropriate measures need to be put into place to protect taxpayer data from unauthorized access.

Specifically, the Kentucky Revenue Cabinet (KRC), responsible for the administration of tax law for both Kentucky individual and business taxpayers, will deploy Entrust Desktop solutions to provide highly secure encryption and two-factor authentication for the organization's field staff.  The combination of the Entrust digital identity solution, which includes a hardware token that can provide a multiple level approach to protect sensitive files and folders on the laptop, allows only authenticated users to access the encrypted files.

As the result of a competitive bid process, the Commonwealth of Kentucky has already established a strong relationship with Entrust, as it has standardized on the Entrust product for PKI and secure email.

"The Kentucky Revenue Cabinet has entered into this pilot project to deploy Entrust solutions to provide our field staff with needed encryption, authentication and other capabilities to secure sensitive taxpayer data," said Barbara Bean, CIO of the Kentucky Revenue Cabinet.  "We needed a two-factor authentication solution to ensure that the information housed on the laptops in the field is protected."

"Security solutions are critical as state and federal governments move to deploy enterprise applications and processes for both internal and external users via the Internet," said Bill Conner, CEO, chairman and president of Entrust.  "We are excited that both the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the Kentucky Revenue Cabinet have achieved a number of e-government milestones, bringing more and more of their processes online to better serve citizens and businesses."
