ENTRUST ADDRESSES MISINFORMATION
Entrust categorically denies statements by Tony Sanchez?s Spokesman
25 Sep 2002
Dallas ? Entrust, Inc. (NASDAQ: ENTU), a leading global provider of Internet security solutions and services, today strongly denied statements made earlier this week by Texas gubernatorial candidate Tony Sanchez?s spokesman regarding SEC inquiries surrounding Zix Corporation. Specifically, Mr. Sanchez?s spokesman stated, ?the SEC is not looking at Zix,? and also stated that the inquiry deals with Entrust, not Zix. Mr. Sanchez is a Zix Board member and a significant investor in Zix.
?In wire reports last week, we read of the ?informal telephone inquiry? from the SEC into Zix Corporation regarding the accounting treatment of revenues from their agreement with Entrust,? said Bill Conner, chairman and CEO at Entrust. ?Since then, statements made by Sanchez?s spokesman have falsely suggested that Entrust is the focus of an SEC inquiry. I want to set the record straight. Entrust has not been contacted by the SEC in this matter. In fact, yesterday we proactively contacted the SEC enforcement office to pledge our full support and cooperation in this matter.?
?With respect to the November 2000 marketing and distribution agreement between Entrust and Zix, Entrust has honored its commitments and payments to date as specified in the contract. That is the extent of our involvement in this matter, and we regret that Mr. Sanchez has permitted his campaign to play politics with our reputation and our integrity.?
