Entrust Launches Server-Based Pricing for Latest Web Access Control Solution
Latest version combines reliability, security and performance with lower total cost of ownership for customers moving business on-line
08 Jul 2003
DALLAS - Entrust, Inc. [NASDAQ: ENTU], a leader in securing digital identities and information, today unveiled its latest Web access control solution, Entrust GetAccess? 7.0, which includes a new server-based pricing model. The new Entrust solution allows enterprises and governments to extend their business activities on-line while benefiting from the built-in cost efficiencies associated with a server-based pricing model.
Server-based pricing enables customers to purchase the solution on a per-processor basis with the flexibility of adding incremental capacity when required to support additional applications and users. In consultation with its customers, Entrust's new approach is tied to the frequency of transactions performed - a more accurate reflection of the value of portal applications to any organization. Further, server-based pricing eliminates the need for large up-front investments and associated licensing fees, while providing support for an unlimited number of users - essentially tying the investment to actual use, as opposed to having to guess, as with the per-user licensing model.
"The new Entrust GetAccess pricing model should appeal to many enterprises as IT budgets remain tight," said Gerry Gebel, analyst at Burton Group. "A per server pricing model can lower upfront project costs, permit flexible expansion as the business dictates, and provide better predictability for software costs in the long run."
Entrust GetAccess 7.0 also incorporates performance improvements and service offerings that build on the reliability, security and performance already demonstrated in large-scale portals. In addition, customers can leverage standards-based mechanisms such as federated identities based on SAML, granular policy controls using XACML and automated provisioning that delivers improved service levels.
"Clerical Medical, a leading provider of flexible and efficient financial solutions for individuals and companies, has successfully leveraged Entrust's Web Access Control solution to combine personalized access with systems management functionality to manage a large number of users," said Jac Cuypers, head of development delivery at Clerical Medical. "At Clerical Medical, we recognize that the capabilities of securing data go well beyond providing protection for financial transactions and sensitive data, and can also be leveraged as a business enabler that allows a company to offer its customers more and more services online."
"Entrust has delivered yet another first in the Web access control market with its new server-based pricing model," said Kevin Simzer, senior vice president at Entrust. "Just as Entrust was the first company to deliver Web access and security, we are now bringing the total cost of ownership down while increasing reliability, security and performance as customers move their businesses on-line."
Performance Characteristics
Building on the expertise gained from supporting multi-million user deployments today, Entrust GetAccess 7.0 delivers new levels of reliability, security and performance through capabilities including:- Double the performance from the previous Entrust GetAccess release, enabling organizations to more easily meet the demands of today's high-volume portals with less hardware expenditures.
- Streamlined deployment and management through a simplified architecture, reducing the need to manage software on individual Web servers, enabling organizations to deploy faster and simplify the support of their portal.
- Rules-based policy controls through XACML, which enable organizations to control access based not only on role, but also on rules such as time of day, physical location, or authentication method. Fine-grained rules make it easier to support large, diverse user populations accessing information with varying levels of sensitivity.
- FIPS 140-2 compliance, providing both governments and enterprises with third-party validation of the security features in Entrust GetAccess that are critical for portals that control access to sensitive information and applications.
- Support for SAML 1.0, the recently ratified OASIS standard that enables organizations to more easily and securely interact with each other through federated identities. Entrust's SAML expertise is being leveraged by the Liberty Alliance Project, with Entrust playing a key role in the definition and delivery of Phase 1.0 of the project.
