Notes to Editors:
What is 3G? 3G stands for 'third generation' and refers to a new technical standard for wireless communication (also known as UMTS or Universal Mobile Telecommunications System). All wireless technology in Europe and Asia will operate under the 3G standard in the near future.
Second generation mobile phones (the ones we currently use) are digital and offer facilities such as text messaging and the ability to access limited information services. These developments have paved the way for third generation (or 3G) wireless devices.
