Award-winning technology poised to bolster Internet security firm's position in burgeoning market segment expected to nearly double to more than $8 billion in 2004

10 May 2001

LAS VEGAS - Entrust Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: ENTU), a leading global provider of Internet security services and solutions, received Network Magazine's "Product of the Year Award" in the Authentication and Access Control category yesterday in Las Vegas at the NetWorld+Interop Spring 2001 trade show.

Entrust Technologies' market-leading PKI software (v. 5.1) captured the award, marking the third such distinction for the company, which also received the 1999 and 1997 award for best public-key infrastructure (PKI) and authentication product.

The technology provides an "electronic handshake" that protects mission-critical documents and files of any size and verifies that they were securely and privately sent and received.  World-class security solutions are especially important in the service provider, financial and government sectors, where Entrust Technologies is focusing much of its efforts.

The award is the second this week for Entrust, which also received a "2001 Well-Connected Award" in Internet security from Network Computing magazine, marking the third time in recent years that Entrust/PKI technology has captured an award from the publication.

Meta Group, a market research firm based in Stamford, Conn., expects Internet security to be a top priority for the foreseeable future, predicting that corporate budgets will grow by as much as 50 percent annually in this market segment for the remainder of the decade.

Another market research firm, Framingham, Mass.-based IDC, recently predicted that the U.S. Internet security services market alone would total $8.2 billion in 2004, nearly double what it's valued at today.

"As the Internet evolves and online business transactions increase globally, we're proud to be recognized as an Internet security leader by Network Magazine," said Bill Conner, president and chief executive officer, Entrust Technologies. "The award provides further evidence that Entrust Technologies is uniquely positioned to provide mission-critical security, privacy and trust in Internet transactions."

Network Magazine's "Product of the Year Awards" are annually presented to those products and services - across both enterprise and the public network - based on the following criteria:

  • Broad appeal of the product to the publication's reader base;
  • Competitive enhancements that the product offers;
  • Price/performance advantages;
  • Technical ingenuity;
  • New features and applications; and
  • Serviceability to the market.

Entrust/PKI award-winning software also will be featured in the May issue of Network Magazine, which is circulated to 200,000 network professionals.
