Entrust Announces ?Commoditized? Web Site Certificates Service Program
Enhanced Internet Security Provider to Offer Web Site Certificates Starting at $149: Program Provides 40% Savings Over VeriSign
01 May 2002
DALLAS - The crucial need for basic Internet security demands that providers offer a "commodity" service that is easy and inexpensive for governments and large enterprises to implement, according to Entrust, Inc. [Nasdaq: ENTU], a leading provider of enhanced Internet security products and solutions.
With so many organizations and government agencies exposed to Internet security breaches, vendors have an obligation to make it as simple as possible to begin to add security to those systems. That's why Entrust today announced a program making unmanaged Web site certificates available on a commodity basis to enterprises and governments.
Organizations facing the administrative task of renewing their Web site certificates or purchasing new ones may now buy bundled certificates of ten or more starting at $149 per certificate per year.
The program provides a 40% price savings compared to VeriSign's current price on its Web site. Additionally, Entrust today promised to beat any verified VeriSign deal of similar size for this commodity service for the remainder of 2002.
"As the market for Web site certificates has evolved, Entrust believes customers deserve a break on what is now a commodity service," said Mark Davis, Entrust chief marketing officer. "Web site certificates provide only basic security, addressing minimum security requirements for organizations. With the continuing rise of identity theft, hacking and Internet fraud, organizations may need to establish higher levels of trust and security among users and within their Internet operations. Entrust, an industry leader in providing enhanced Internet security solutions, is well-positioned to assist customers in deploying enhanced security throughout their organization."
Entrust Web site certificates and administration services are designed for ease of management and implementation. Through the Entrust Certificate Administrator Service, customers may issue certificates with a lifetime of up to two years and have the flexibility to align certificate expiration. Certificates can be pooled or redeployed, benefiting customers with additional savings.
"For many organizations the administrative cost of annual renewals often exceeds the costs of actual Web site certificates," said Davis. "We've taken customer comments and directly tailored our program to reflect these comments and market realities. For example, customers who switch to Entrust this year and purchase our two-year service, will not have to re-install certificates deployed on their Web servers due to certificate expiration, until 2004."
