15 Apr 2002
MINNEAPOLIS - Datakey Inc. (Nasdaq: DKEY; www.datakey.com), the leading U.S.-based developer of smart card technology for securing e-business, announced today that Datakey CIP is in the process of achieving Entrust Ready?status with Entrust TruePass? software - enabling strong, two-factor authentication for access to Web portals and to secure associated online transactions.
Datakey CIP is Datakey's smart card and client software solution for enterprises. The Datakey smart card functions as an employee's identity throughout the enterprise - for both physical and data security. It supports an organization's authentication methods and adds an extra layer of protection for passwords, dynamic passwords, Windows log-on, VPNs, web authorization, digital certificates and digital signatures.
Entrust TruePass 6.0 software provides enhanced identification through multiple methods of authentication based on digital identities (ID). This includes smart cards, standard roaming, roaming with SMS messaging via GSM mobile phones, or via voice options with a standard phone, local PC storage, and tokens, thereby broadening the potential market of Entrust Ready partners' products.
The combination of Entrust TruePass software with Datakey smart card technology can give enterprises the confidence to move sensitive business information and applications to the Web. Once available on the Web, this data and applications are available for access anytime, anywhere, while still protected against unauthorized access.
"This integration with Datakey will open new doors to enhanced security for both government and commercial enterprises," said Ian Curry, vice president, product management and strategy, Entrust, Inc. "Entrust TruePass 6.0 software is a core element of our Secure Web Portal Solution, which enables organizations to securely conduct valuable and sensitive online transactions with customers, citizens, suppliers, partners and employees through strong identification, an auditable transaction record and industry-leading data protection and privacy capabilities."
A strong history of interoperability
In 1997, Datakey CIP was the first smart card product to achieve Entrust Ready status with Entrust's enhanced Internet security solutions. Integration with Entrust TruePass continues this tradition of seamless Datakey smart card interoperability with Entrust's leading solutions.
"As enterprises turn to the Web for conducting day-to-day business operations, trust and security are mandatory," said Tim Russell, Datakey. "Entrust TruePass software and Datakey smart card technology represent an interoperable, flexible and secure solution that allow these organizations to leverage the Web as a medium for connecting business partners and users."
