Entrust congratulates Teranet for making Ontario Electronic Land Registry Network a world leader in electronic land registry service delivery
19 Mar 2003
DALLAS - Entrust, Inc. [NASDAQ: ENTU], a leader in securing digital identities and information, today congratulated Teranet Inc. in registering its one-millionth electronic land registration document through its Teraview? gateway. Teranet provides land registration services under contract to the Government of Ontario. This significant achievement demonstrates the proven success of a four-year relationship between Teranet and Entrust to provide a security solution for Teranet's Teraview software.
This 'world's first' application equips users in the legal, real estate and mortgage sectors with secure access to property title information stored in the Province of Ontario Land Registry Information System's (POLARIS?) database. The Teraview software authenticates users using Entrust digital identities, which also enable them to apply digital signatures to land registry transactions to provide accountability, integrity and non-repudiation. These capabilities offer a cost-effective and productivity-enhancing approach to land registry document management because all submissions can be done securely over the Internet.
"The security from Entrust is tightly integrated into the Teraview application, making it very easy to use," said Doug Laughton, a partner in the law firm Tierney Stauffer based in Ottawa, Ontario, who has been using the electronic registration application for almost a year. "Teraview enables me to be more productive and better able to serve my clients."
"Using Entrust's market-leading security capabilities, Teranet was able to take advantage of innovative regulations in Ontario that stipulate that an electronic document that creates, transfers or otherwise disposes of an estate or interest in land is not required to be in writing or to be signed," said Ian Curry, vice-president and chief marketing officer at Entrust. "We are proud to congratulate Teranet on its great success. Teranet is a wonderful example of how private companies can work with governments to leverage the Internet to significantly enhance productivity and reduce costs."
According to Charles De Peri, Vice President, Marketing & Business Development of Teranet, "Teranet has successfully become the world's first secure electronic registration authority that specializes in land registry information. Security is very important for our solution and our partnership with Entrust provides the comprehensive digital identity and information security capabilities to meet our requirements. The achievement of the one-millionth document registration milestone demonstrates that our system is a proven success."
About Digital Signatures
Digital signatures provide unique capabilities for securing digital information; for example, they enable the recipient to verify the authenticity of the information's originator. In addition, a verified digital signature assures the recipient that the information has not been tampered with since it was originally signed. These two benefits of digital signatures are essential for enabling secure online transactions and information distribution.
