DALLAS - The Board of Directors of Entrust, Inc. (Nasdaq: ENTU), a leading global provider of Internet security solutions and services, announced today the appointment of General Wesley K. Clark, U.S. Army (retired), and Liener Temerlin as its newest members. In addition, the Board named Entrust president and chief executive officer, F. William Conner, chairman of the board, effective immediately.
General Clark is currently managing director, Merchant Banking at the Stephens Group, Inc. where he works in high technology venture capital. He previously served as both the supreme allied commander of the NATO forces in Europe and the commander in chief of the United States European Command. General Clark earlier served as the commander in chief of the United States Southern Command. On August 9, 2000, he was awarded the Presidential Medal for Freedom, which is the nation's highest civilian honor. General Clark regularly serves as military analyst for Cable News Network (CNN).
Liener Temerlin is chairman emeritus of Temerlin McClain, a division of the Interpublic Group (IPG), the largest advertising, marketing and communications resource in the world. His marketing career spans almost five decades with a focus on building brands while building demand for market leaders such as American Airlines, JCPenney, Nationwide Insurance, Subaru of America, Bank of America, Bell Helicopter and Nortel Networks. His board roles in civic and global organizations include the East/West Institute, the American Film Institute, the Library of Congress, Madison Council, and Southern Methodist University (SMU), among many others. In October 2001, the SMU school of advertising was named "The Temerlin Advertising Institute for Education and Research" in his honor.
"We are privileged to have General Clark and Liener Temerlin join our Board of Directors," said Conner. "From their life-long legacy of service, the company will immediately benefit from their collective leadership, perspective and vision."
Conner, who succeeds Jim Thomson as chairman of the board, is credited with powering a successful company reset, establishing a clear business model, rebuilding the brand and leading the company toward profitability. Conner, 42, has been president and chief executive officer of Entrust since April 2001.
When Bill Conner joined Entrust, the company needed new direction and focus on results," said Jim Thomson, outgoing chairman of the board. "With Bill's changes to strategy and organization, I think the company is moving forward well and that I can step aside. I share the board's support for Bill's leadership and look forward to great things in the future for Bill and Entrust." "We are also extremely grateful for the significant contributions Jim Thomson has made to Entrust." Conner said. "His leadership on the Entrust board of directors came during one of the most challenging periods in our company history. On behalf of the board, I appreciate his support and guidance during this period."
