Entrust IdentityGuard 8.1 ... A Good Thing Gets Even Better

Entrust's award winning open authentication platform adds hardware tokens and key enterprise support to help accelerate deployment and lower cost

27 Jun 2006

DALLAS - Already supporting a range of authentication choices in its award winning Entrust IdentityGuard, Entrust, Inc. [NASDAQ: ENTU] has packed even more flexibility and functionality to its multi-factor authentication platform. Entrust IdentityGuard 8.1 supports token-based authentication, has expanded its Microsoft desktop security support to include options like 802.1x wireless and delivers key platform and application server support for increased deployment flexibility. The wide range of authentication options and deployment flexibility help enable organizations to choose both the configuration and authentication options that they believe are right for them, all in a single, cost-effective platform.

"Organizations don't want to install a bunch of different point products to offer different authentication options to employees, business partners and customers. They want one complete authentication platform that can support a range of options," said Entrust Chief Technology Officer Chris Voice. "With the added support of key platforms and ubiquitous Microsoft desktop and server applications, enterprise customers will be able to more easily add strong authentication to a range of sensitive applications. Since many companies have a need to move quickly to either meet regulatory requirements, pass technology audits or just offer more services online to their customers, employees and business partners, this new functionality will help allow them to address security issues quickly and then move on to what's even more important - doing business."

Entrust IdentityGuard 8.1 builds on its past support for Linux by adding support for Windows 2003 and Solaris 9 and 10. BEA WebLogic and IBM WebSphere application servers are also supported, enabling organizations with significant investments in these products to leverage them for deploying Entrust IdentityGuard.  In addition to past support for strong authentication to the Microsoft desktop, Entrust IdentityGuard 8.1 now adds support for native Microsoft applications including RAS, IP-SEC and 802.1x wireless authentication. Leading Microsoft applications, such as Microsoft Outlook Web Access, also will be supported with a standard plug-in to either Microsoft IIS or Microsoft ISA Server.

Entrust IdentityGuard is a comprehensive multi-factor authentication platform for Internet and enterprise applications. This suite of strong authentication capabilities can help enable organizations to take a risk-based approach to tailoring security deployment. The flexible deployment options allow organizations to match strong authentication methods to the level of risk they have determined to be associated with the different types of users, transactions, and applications in their environment.

"Flexibility, openness and choice are key attributes organizations will be looking for when choosing a strong authentication solution," said IDC Research Director Sally Hudson. "Entrust IdentityGuard provides a platform capable of addressing the authentication needs of many organizations."

Entrust IdentityGuard 8.1 is now available through Entrust and authorized channels.
