WinMagic’s Flagship Encryption Product Achieves Entrust Ready™ Status
WinMagic’s Disk Encryption Software Certified Interoperable with Entrust Software to Provide Extended Security Benefits to Customers
23 Mar 2004
Mississauga, Ontario - WinMagic Inc. today announced that its SecureDoc™ full-disk encryption software has achieved Entrust Ready status for Entrust Authority™ Security Manager 6.x and 7.0 via Entrust Entelligence™ Desktop Manager 6.1. The Entrust Ready designation is awarded by Entrust, Inc. [Nasdaq: ENTU], a leader in securing digital identities and information, and refers to products and services that have been reviewed for compatibility and interoperability with Entrust offerings.
Entrust Authority Security Manager software securely stores the certificate authority (CA) private key, issues certificates for users and devices, and publishes user and application certificate revocation lists (CRLs) to allow verifiable communications. The Security Manager also maintains a database of users' private key histories for recovery purposes in the event that users lose access to their keys. Additionally, SecureDoc is also compatible and interoperable with Entrust Entelligence® Desktop Manager 6.1, which makes it easier to deploy and manage desktop security by enabling single sign-on (SSO) functions, strong authentication (including two-factor authentication using Entrust USB Tokens) digital signatures and interoperability with leading vendors.
"We're very pleased to have the opportunity to be aligned with Entrust, a global company," said Jim Armstrong, National Sales Manager, WinMagic Inc. "Global relationships enable integration of best-of-breed solutions and can create synergies. A large number of our commercial and governmental clients view this merger of award-winning technologies as the beginning of a new level of data security that will prove to be a leading solution for securing data both at rest and in transit. SecureDoc has the ability to utilize Entrust Digital IDs and most hardware tokens at boot logon including Entrust's latest integration component - the Entrust® USB Token - thus incorporating a single password at login with any industry standard hardware token -seamlessly automating both disk encryption and PKI simultaneously."
WinMagic's SecureDoc hard disk encryption software addresses the needs of organizations increasing mobile workforce by ensuring protection of sensitive information stored on desktops and laptops by employing authentication from password to hardware token, biometrics, and PKI commencing right at pre-boot time. SecureDoc hard disk encryption presents a user-friendly solution, providing solid security for PCs and laptops alike by utilizing Public Key Cryptographic Standards PKCS-11. SecureDoc has achieved validations for Common Criteria, FIPS 140-1 Level 2, and SecureDoc's FORTEZZA-based version is the only hard disk encryption software certified by the NSA to safeguard US government SECRET information.
"Entrust customers are aggressively seeking ways to secure data stored on laptops and workstations, in order to address privacy and information security governance requirements," said Eric Skinner, vice president, Secure Data Solutions, Entrust. "We are happy to certify WinMagic's SecureDoc as Entrust Ready. The joint solution offers extended value for organizations seeking to protect their sensitive information, at rest or in transit. We look forward to successful deployments of the joint security solution."
